Terms of use

By using Reporight you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use the service.

What this service is

Reporight reads publicly available information about public GitHub repositories and reports which open-source licences appear to apply, along with the evidence for that conclusion. It is an informational tool.

It is not legal advice

Nothing here is legal advice, and using this service creates no lawyer–client relationship. Licence obligations depend on how you use the code, how you distribute it, and the law where you operate. Before you rely on any result commercially, have a qualified lawyer review it.

No claim is made that any repository is “compliant”, safe to use, or cleared for any purpose.

Accuracy, and its limits

Licence detection is inference from text, and it can be wrong. Results may be incomplete, out of date, or mistaken. In particular:

  • A repository summary reads only the root of the repository.
  • A deep scan reads the files it can, within published limits, and says so when it has stopped early.
  • Confidence levels and the evidence trail are shown precisely so you can judge the result rather than trust it blindly. Read them.
  • Dependencies of a repository are counted, not analysed.

The service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Mukhesh is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this service — including lost profits, licence-compliance failures, legal costs, or business interruption. You are responsible for verifying licence terms before using anyone's code.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Acceptable use

  • Do not use automated means to overload the service or evade its rate limits.
  • Do not use it to break GitHub's terms of service, or anyone else's.
  • Access may be limited or withdrawn where use threatens the availability of the service for others.

Third-party material

Repository names, descriptions, and licence files belong to their respective owners and are shown for identification and reference. Licence texts and categories come from the ScanCode LicenseDB by AboutCode, used under CC-BY-4.0; see the NOTICE file distributed with this software. GitHub is a trademark of GitHub, Inc., used descriptively. This service is not affiliated with GitHub or AboutCode.

If you believe something here infringes your rights, contact the grievance officer below and it will be addressed.

Donations

Donations are voluntary and buy nothing: no goods, services, support, priority, or warranty, and no change to the disclaimers above. They are not tax-deductible charitable contributions and no 80G receipt is issued. Payments are processed by Razorpay and are subject to their terms as well as these. See the refund and cancellation policy.

Privacy

See the privacy notice. In short: no accounts, no cookies for visitors, no analytics.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
